Matcha is a finely ground, shade-grown green tea. Produced solely in Japan, Matcha is an integral part of “Chanoyu,” the Japanese way of tea, which dates back over eight centuries. As the highest quality tea available in Japan, Matcha has become a popular drink world-wide, enjoyed for both its traditional functions as well as its immense health benefits. Prepared traditionally, the tea is whisked in 180 degree water and consumed straight. A sweet is often enjoyed before drinking Matcha, which perfectly complements its sweet, mildly astringent flavor. Since the powdered leaves are dissolved and consumed in full, Matcha delivers the highest concentration of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, L-theanines (amino acids,) fibers, catechins, and caffeine (10 mg) in comparison with all other green teas. Catechincs, which are a category of polyphenols, reduces LDL cholesterol and suppresses chemicals in the body that trigger the constriction of blood vessels, thereby contributing to the prevention of high blood pressure. Research has shown that green tea catechins also inhibit the growth of various types of cancer cells and have proven to be both antibacterial and antiviral. Theanine is an amino acid that produces a tranquilizing effect in the brain and is found in the leaves of green tea. It helps increasing mental clarity and improving concentration. Matcha ensures a healthy, relaxed energy boost that usually lasts for three to six hours.
